About — Williams Vintage Amplification

Williams Vintage Amplification is a small private shop, operated by Jeff Williams, located off Slaughter Lane, not far from Mopac Expressway, in South-West Austin, Texas.

At Williams Vintage Amplification I utilize modern and traditional equipment and many years of experience in Electronics Design, Debugging, and Repair to work on your amplifier. There are few Vacuum Tube based amplifiers which are in such a shape that they cannot be efficiently repaired or modified.

I specialize in the very old and odd as well as the modern and love to convert PA Amplifiers to Musical Instrument Amplifiers, bring new life into old and worn amps. I also really enjoy improving the utilization and tone of newer inexpensive amps, bringing them to a level comparable to their more expensive peers as well as adding function and performance to traditional designs.

I will mod any amplifier you wish to mod, but will offer opinions as to usability and functionality of mods and features, especially when applied to traditional or valuable amplifiers. If you have an amp with mods and wish it de-mod'ed, or returned to traditional status, that's no problem as well. Work on amps that have been mod'ed by others than myself might involve increased cost depending upon the quality, workmanship, and significance of the mods.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments, and I love to hear back from customers after work to follow up on the amps I've touched. I offer a warranty on my work of a minimum of 30 days, but extended at my discretion based upon the work and the returned problem. For mod work I normally offer at least one return for tweaks of tone to your satisfaction. Completely reversing a mod, even my own, has a cost usually comparable to the mod itself, so when mod'ing it is best to know what you want, and know that you want it done.

I normally do NOT work on solid-state amplifiers or equipment, by choice. Not only are they often more work than they are worth, but they just aren't as much fun to work with. What can I say - I love tubes.

I am an Electrical Engineer with 25 years of Engineering experience in Design Engineering. Long before becoming an Engineer I was repairing and retrofitting vintage radios and TVs and such, and was a decent technician. As an Engineer I have maintained my technician skills and continued my work in many areas of electronics work. I work on Vacuum Tube Amplifiers out of my shop because I Enjoy it! This is an extended hobby for me, so many times I can offer you a cost lower than most other shops.
