PowerDrive™ — Full Power down to <100mW with Constant Tone!

How would you like to take that 100W Fender Twin and have a knob to crank the power down to bedroom levels and keep that fantastic tone!?

No Problem! — Let me Install a PowerDrive™ Board for you!

I know it seems hard to believe, but it is entirely true! DO a search on the internet for "power-scaling tube amplifier" and you'll find several different solutions out there. You'll see the discussions of "variable-power vs. power-scaling" and find that the term "power-scaling" refers {in the minds of the writer at least} to a specific solution by a boutique Amp company called "London Power". Fair enough, this is my own unique design, neither based upon, nor licensed from London Power — the Williams Vintage Amplification PowerDrive™ technology is a variable-power high-voltage regulation and adjustment board that can be added to almost any tube-amplifier to control it's power output levels from Full Power down to mere Milliwatts — and maintain virtually unchanged tone through the range.

Of course, with all changes in any variable in a tube-amplifier shifts in tone do occur. The largest shift in the use of any variable power technology is the speaker. a Small part {sometimes a large part} of the tone is due to the speaker being heavily deflected at high power levels, especially true when a moderately power rated speaker is driven toward it's limits {one of the tone secrets of truly old vintage amps}. However, despite this effect, proper application of high-voltage adjustment from normal full levels of 300-500V down to about 50V or so across the entire preamp and poweramp do maintain the tone of the amplifier itself virtually unchanged. Of course, PowerDrive™ incorporates proper bias adaptation for fixed-bias amps with a full-power bias adjustment and a min-power bias adjustment, and the circuit maintains an optimal linear bias line between these limits throughout the amps power range.

I do not generally sell the PowerDrive board in kit form, for honestly, it requires custom adaptation into every individual amplifier design, and I don't recommend most people hacking into their high-voltage supplies. However, if you want to install one yourself, contact me and I may consider selling you a populated board customized for your amp. And anyway, I'll install it into your amp for what the kit costs from London Power.

PowerDrive™ can be installed in Most Amps for $100-$160, depending upon the design of the amplifier power-supply, the Full-Power Level, and the physical constraints of the amplifier chassis. The PowerDrive board is 1.5"x2.5" and utilizes the amplifier chassis as the heat sink.
