At Williams Vintage Amplification, I normally do NOT work on solid-state amplifiers or equipment, by choice. Not only are they often more work than they are worth, but they just aren't as much fun to work with. But if you have a Vacuum Tube based amplifier of most any sort I can probably get it back into shape for you.
For normal musical instrument amplifier repair work, where the problem is not immediately diagnosable, I may require a $35 minimum fee, with which the amp will either be repaired if the problem is simple, or a diagnoses and estimate for the full repair costs will be provided. For easily diagnosed or known repair work I will usually be able to provide an estimate on the spot. If for any reason it looks like the estimate may need to be exceeded, I will contact you before exceeding that amount. For large or involved repairs or rebuilds I may ask for a cost maximum cap amount, allowing more flexibility than a standard estimate.
My shop target rate typically runs about $30/hour.
Here is a simple list of things to tell me if you notify me that you need a repair:
1. Brand and Model of Amp? — Include Chassis Number or year of manufacture if known.
2. What are the symptoms? — be as specific and detailed as possible.
3. How long has the problem been occuring? — any idea why it started? any possible causes?
4. Was the Amp working properly before the current condition manifested?
5. Have you had the tubes checked recently? How old are the tubes? (as in hours of use)
6. When was this amp last worked on? What was worked on or done, and by whom?
Or, just email me and we'll discuss it.
